We all have days where we feel inadequate, alone, and just plain sorry. For those times, God wants to speak to our hearts in a special way. What is He trying to say?
There are days when I feel like I’ve got it all together…
Then, there are days where I feel like I’m surviving on the fumes at the bottom of my tank. Not unlike my mom-mobile every time my husband gets in… but that’s another story.
I think you know what I’m talking about. Every mother goes through it. We feel tired, overwhelmed, and out of sorts.

And, oh how we wish we could stay on the mountain top. Where the air feels fresh and the breeze lifts out spirits.
I’m just imagining how the crisp morning air smells like a new day…and I’m ready to grab the day it and go!
But not today. Today I am dragging my feet and feeling sorry for myself.
Then… a praise song enters my heart and I sing a little chorus.
Then… a scripture of hope runs across my mind.
Now… I can see clearly that God is using this empty time to speak to me in a way that he can’t on those “full” days.
What is God Trying to Say?
1. You are an every day Christian.
As a Christian, when I feel as though I’m weak in my faith its because I am practicing “Sunday morning religion.”
What does that mean? It means that I’m not praying and reading my Bible the way I need to in order to be fed daily.
Yes, I confess to be a faith filled believer. Am I just going though the motions and showing up on Sundays to prove it?
God desires to be in relationship with me every day… not just when it’s important for me.
Relationship, blessings, and joy come from being in the presence of God… so why am I putting this off? No wonder I feel empty and tired.
In his presence is fullness of joy and the joy of the Lord is my strength!
2. I need childlike love to please Him.
I remember what it was like to first come to God. All I wanted to do was sit at his feet and be with him.
Do you remember what that was like?
Sometimes as Christians, we take our relationship with the Lord for granted. Let me explain… we know He is always there so we say a quick “thank you” and press on with our day.
When I’m empty and out of sorts, often its because I am not living my live “in love” with Jesus as a child would. In other words, I’m mature enough to handle it all.
Matthew 18:1-3 says:
At the same time came the disciples unto Jesus, saying, Who is the greatest in the kingdom of heaven?
And Jesus called a little child unto him, and set him in the midst of them,
And said, Verily I say unto you, Except ye be converted, and become as little children, ye shall not enter into the kingdom of heaven.
Childlike love pleases the Lord. This love causes a Christian to stop and spend time with Him often. This love cases a Christian to linger in his presence because he simply can.
I want to have this kind of love…

3. Faith to just trust in His word.
Psalms 119:105 is a favorite verse of mine. It says:
Thy word is a lamp unto my feet, and a light unto my path.
And… it’s true. When I walk in God’s ways I am stronger, healthier, and lighter.
Walking by faith means going full speed ahead after God with both feet. Not tiptoeing around or cautiously entering into His ways.
Wishy washy doesn’t work for God. And, it doesn’t do our lives justice either. Being cautious about my faith in God’s word is sure to lead to confusion, feeling overwhelmed, and an empty cup.
4. It’s “OK” to be possessive.
It’s ok to have a possessive attitude about my God. Nothing can come between me and my relationship with Him.
Whether it’s my job, my family, my social life, or my own devices… if it comes between me and the Lord, I’ve got to find a way to fix that.
It’s when I don’t correct this imbalance in my daily walk that I feel empty and overwhelmed. I’ve placed God on the “back burner”. He doesn’t deserve to be there!
It’s time to take a step back and say: “nope, nothing can come between me and Jesus!” Nothing is going to rank higher in my life than Him.

God Causes An Overflowing Cup
When water become stagnant, there are many issues that follow. When my life as a Christian becomes stagnant… many issues follow.
And… I don’t want any of them!
In those times of emptiness, God is telling me that he wants my cup to overflow.
If I am full of God, my cup cannot contain Him. It will bubble over and spill into my life and the life of those around me. This is God’s plan.
Relationship, joy, and blessings come from a life that overflows with Jesus. This is what He is speaking to me, and I’m so thankful for it!
